Notes:

2009:  With Ryan Nelsen absent through injury and Ben Sigmund not quite recovered from surgery, Boyens started in the heart of defence against Italy (friendly), Spain and South Afirca in the All Whites' Confederations Cup campaign. Also made an appearance form the bench in the 0-0 draw with Iraq.

2008: Released by Toronto but went on trial at New York Red Bulls and was quickly picked up for the 2008 season. With the return of Ryan Nelsen to the All Whites mix, Boyens found himself down in the pecking order with Nelsen and Ben Sigmund preferred starters for matches against New Caledonia.

2007: Boyen's made the most of his call-up for the shortened European tour with an eye-catching performance alongside Ben Sigmund (the pair had little more than 10 minutes of international experience between them before the Wrexham fixture) in the 2-2 draw with Wales on May 26.  Started all three of NZ's World Cup qualifiers in 2007.

2006: Boyens cashed in on a decorated collegiate career in the US with the University of New Mexico when the All-American was recently drafted by MLS expansion franchise Toronto FC. The 23-year-old central defender, seen as a bright prospect, made his All Whites debut – and until now only international appearance - against Uefa Cup holders FC Sevilla in Spain last August.
