Chatham Cup 2008

The Chatham Cup is one of New Zealand sport's oldest and most coveted trophies, steeped in history and tradition. First contested in 1923, the cup was gifted to the then NZ Football Association in 1922 by the crew of the British naval vessal HMS Chatham as a token of appreciation for the hospitality they had encountered on a visit to New Zealand. The knockout format of the competition, and the indeed the actual trophy, is modelled on England's FA Cup.

As with previous editions, the 81st Chatham Cup will be run along regional lines until the quarterfinal stage when four teams from the Northern Region (United Soccer1, Auckland Football, and Waikato/BOP Football) two from the Central Region (Central Football and Capital Football) and two from the Southern Region (Mainland Football and SoccerSouth) enter an open national draw.
