NZS ACADEMIES

With the implementation of International Player Development (the identification, teaching and recruitment of elite performers), the aim of the National Academies organised on a Regional basis, (three venues in New Zealand), is to provide young elite players in New Zealand with an opportunity to show their potential for international football.

Players will be exposed to a teaching and learning programme which is appropriate in all dimensions (i.e. technical, physical, psychological), specific and targeted on an individual and collective basis to compliment the regular teaching taking place in the Federations.

In addition consistent and regular Development Courses will be organised on a Regional basis for the U17 boys group, U20 boys, U17, U19 & Senior Women. This again is paramount to provide larger pools of talent with additional international development time to assist in identifying the best players.

Academies will provide effective challenging and learning experiences for players at a younger age to take into consideration individual fast tracking, private development games, and one-off international matches or tournaments. Development Pools at Under 14,15 &16 Boys and Girls level will travel outside of New Zealand for an earlier experience of international events (i.e. preparation, match play and debrief) where - with proper guidance the experience, the match play can also be the teacher.

The depth and magnitude of the transition from the International Player Development programme to the Academy Concept is considerable.

The model moving forward will be:
